Richard C. (Chip) Williams, Jr.

Chip Williams was admitted to Mississippi state and federal district bars in 1976, the bicentennial of the Country's founding. During the Viet Nam War, before receiving his law degree, Chip served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves on active duty aboard a World War II destroyer, the USS Stribling (DD 867), and a guided missile frigate, the USS Wainwright (DLG 28), which was later the flagship of the Tall Ships Fourth of July celebration in New York Harbor on July 4, 1976. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Naval Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant in 1983. Before joining Upshaw in 1993, Chip had been an underwriter with General Reinsurance Corporation when it was a publicly traded corporation. He later served as General Counsel for a management company (American Physicians Service Corporation), responsible for hospital and medical professional liability insurance exchanges in Austin and Dallas, Texas. In the past, Chip has served as a school board president (Saint Joseph Catholic Schools, Jackson, Mississippi) and as a volunteer in several church and civic campaigns or events. He writes poetry. Professionally, Chip has been a partner-member of two litigation law firms in his career. He now practices in senior status with Upshaw. He is qualified in mediation. He has previously served on minor Bar committees and made professional education presentations at C.L.E. seminars. Chip has been AV-rated by his peers for over 15 years. He practices in the law firm's Ridgeland office.
